A high country mule deer stands above timberline, his tall frame silhouetted against jagged peaks and early autumn sky. Freshly stripped of velvet, his antlers gleam ivory and raw, dark sap still clinging where he thrashed a twisted pine moments before. The bark is shredded at eye level, fibers hanging loose—proof of the power behind the rub. His ears pivot with mountain alertness, breath drifting in the thin alpine air, body scarred and heavy from summer growth. Now polished and hardened, his rack is no longer in velvet—it’s a weapon, and the high country knows the season has turned.
