A mature whitetail buck lies bedded in the cool shade of the timber, his back tucked against the base of a moss-covered oak beside a slow-moving creek. Dappled sunlight filters through the canopy, flickering across his chocolate antlers and alert, swiveling ears. The steady murmur of water masks the faint sounds of the forest as he rests, chin low and eyes half-closed, perfectly positioned to scent the breeze drifting along the creek bottom. In this quiet pocket of timber and water, he blends seamlessly into the shadows—calm, cautious, and completely at home.
